Aflame and Unafraid

On January 20, 2021, we were gifted with the beautiful, intelligent, articulate, and inspirational Amanda Gorman. I was so moved by both her beautiful words and her orchestration in sharing those words, that I wanted to paint something to commemorate the historical moment of the youngest National Youth Poet Laureate.

In painting this abstract, I was capturing the movement of her hands and face, the grace of her words, and the bold colors she wore. I loved that she used the words “aflame and unafraid” in her poem, The Hill We Climb.
